Gas Prices - Fuel Surcharge

We understand that we all are trying to cope with all the problems with the economy, but as fuel prices continue to rise, we might have to raise the price of service if it continues. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

What is the fuel surcharge?

• The fuel surcharge is designed to compensate for a portion of the costs associated with increased diesel fuel prices. The surcharge is adjusted according to consistent increasing or decreasing diesel fuel rates. According to the U.S. Department of Energy Information Administration the retail price for diesel fuel increased from about $1.31 a gallon in 2002, to nearly $4.00 a gallon by mid 2008. Later in 2008, the economic downturn affected the global demand for petroleum decreasing prices significantly. Select Sanitation adjusts the fuel surcharge to reflect decreases in diesel fuel prices, in an effort to pass savings on to its customers.

Why am I charged this fee?

• By separating the fuel cost into a separate line item, we are better able to isolate fluctuations that may occur in fuel prices. When fuel prices rise and fall those changes have a direct and significant impact on Select Sanitation and the overall cost of serving our customers. Our residential and commercial vehicles use an average of about four to eight miles per gallon. Diesel fuel is not only used to power the trucks, it is also used to run their compaction and hydraulic systems. We also use diesel fuel to run all company service vehicles and heavy equipment. Fuel prices impact our landfill costs, tire costs. Everything in our business is affected by fuel prices.
